World Marquee Light
Canmore

Something no one ever told me about having my own place was that decorating it was going to be so difficult. There are so many little personal elements you want to add, all the while hoping it doesn’t break your bank, that it reflects who you are, and turns out exactly as you envisioned.

I hope in the next year to personalize it enough to write a blog post but in the meantime I have to share this recent find. One of the most important ideas behind my place it have it customized and handmade. The table and bookshelves by my wonderful uncle, the table woodwork centrepieces by my grandfather, an antique standing hair dryer converted into a lamp by a friend. So when it came to the art piece above my kitchen table I was baffled. I wanted a statement piece that would help separate the kitchen area from the living. Originally I had in mind a framed piece with letterpress blocks spelling out important places in the world to reflect my love of travel. But it would seem that is nearly impossible to come by (or afford). Then my friend sent me this little find from Pinterest. Dear goodness.

A world map marquee light by Scott Coppersmith Designs. I cannot express how delighted I am.  It combines my love of travel, art, and light. In addition it came complete with a cloth cord, dimmer, and information on where the reclaimed wood was sourced (in this case a house on Haight Street in San Francisco).

I would oh so highly recommend his pieces.

Hi Brittany. So glad you found your “perfect piece” :-). I love the way your home is coming together in such a personalized way, reflective of your own unique style. Also heartwarming to see the beautiful wood bowl so lovingly created on the lathe by your Grandpa (my dad). He and Grandma would be so proud of you, and happy for you! Luv you, Aunt Caroline
