Day 18
Dear Texans, You Make Good Food
Marfa TX

Dear Texans,

You make good food.

A Canadian

Okay this is completely not in chronological order but I am skipping ahead because I have since been to Texas since my road trip visit Sam and I have discovered that I have officially developed a craving for your food. Yes, yes I have. I still reminisce about the bread in Chile (1997), the noodles in Thailand (2008), the kiwi candy in New Zealand (1999), the tamales in Guatemala (2010) and the hummus in Israel (2010). My palate may just have a better memory than my brain. In any case let me summarize my general trip of the states by saying “I understand why Americans are obese”. Actually I believe I uttered this a bit giddily when standing in a Whole Foods in Austin. It’s just deliciousness as far as the eye can see.

So here I sit. Editing. Listening to the soundtrack from How to Train Your Dragon (ummm… yes. Before you judge go listen to it. It really is audibly stunning). Craving Texas food.

They seriously have everything. It’s cheap (in comparison). It’s delicious.

I decided to satisfy this craving I would dig out some images from said food-venture. First thing I clicked on was food at the Miniature Rooster in Marfa, TX. Indian meets southern food. Although to be fair we totally ordered with an Indian food bias. Unfortunately I think the menu has changed since so I can’t match up each of the foods however the vanilla cheesecake – wow. Just wow. Seriously. I think our first reaction was actually sarcasm it was that good. “Oh this is horrible.” It was reverse psychology in hopes the other person would believably agree and surrender their portion. It didn’t work.

So here. Behold. Food in Texas. To console myself I am going to go grab a Booster Juice for dinner. Then I am going to continue editing watching the Lord of the Rings trilogy. A holiday season tradition.

To eating. Cheers.

Update 40 minutes later that no one cares about: Booster Juice was closed. I am so sad.
